Alcohol is not my friend and by giving it up I am losing nothing. This little book was key in helping me accept the truth. The easy way to quit drinking is a powerful tool. The insights of this little book are still making an amazing difference in my thinking. I’m still working my recovery and have started the 12 steps of alcoholics anonymous. It’s the most help I’ve found so far to quit drinking. I plan to write a longer review once I finish the next book, but I’m certain this approach has done something positive for my recovery. I can’t explain why I’ve lost my cravings for alcohol, except that Allen Carr’s method has helped me recognize how stupid I was being to believe the lies about drinking. I am totally surprised, but the information in this book has been a real help for me. It’s been sober for 14 days since I read the Easy Way to Stop Drinking and I’m now working through the much longer Stop Drinking Now. I’ll probably buy the longer one tomorrow. That insight was worth the price of the book. The obvious problem, when you feed the monster he only gets stronger and more determine. Really it’s just about getting relief from the demon of chemical addiction. The little monster kicks and screams until we gratify its demands – namely more booze.Īll the other “reasons” we like to drink are lies and empty promises.

It’s the insecure feeling that makes us so irrational when it comes to moderation. When the system is clean the next morning, he wants to start again. When the first drink has peaked, the monster asks for a second. This is the craving for another drink, it starts when our alcohol level begins to decrease. The other strong point was the author’s discussion of the “little monster” aka chemical dependency. Of course the flaw here is simple, right knowledge doesn’t always lead to right choices. It adds nothing to your life except misery. That’s a fact we all need to accept. Telling the truth that alcohol is a liar. However, I did like the core idea in this book. It wasn’t detailed. It felt like a pep talk you’d get from Nancy Reagan, “Just Say No!” Honestly, I’m a little tired of the serious books on alcoholism.

I was eyeing the longer “ Stop Drinking Now” but was happy to find the abbreviated treatment. This is obviously a shortened version of the author’s other books about addiction. So today I bought Allen Carr’s, “ The Illustrated Easy Way to Stop Drinking.” But I’m willing to take all the advice I can get, especially something that will give me a fresh look at my life dominating problem. It’s almost offensive to think an “easy way” to beat my alcoholism could come so cheap and with fun cartoon illustrations. I haven't read the book, but it seems to be along the same lines as the Allan Carr book and it might be easier to just get a copy of that.Does anyone believe a $4.99 book, just over 120 pages, can unlock the prison of alcohol addiciton? Many people on here have said that the Annie Grace book was very helpful for them. It didn't work for me, but I had to try that path to know that I needed to more in order to get and stay sober. I am not one of those people, although I tried to be, but it's something that other people describe has worked for them, and I believe them. That is a thing that exists in the world. There are people who are able to stop drinking by rethinking what alcohol is doing for them and changing their attitudes about drinking. I have made the decision to drink knowing that it was a bad idea and that I wasn't acting in my own best interest. I could go a couple of days without alcohol just fine, but going a week was like pulling teeth. But once I start drinking, I can't reliably control or predict how much I'm going to drink or when I'm going to stop, and once I stop drinking, I can't stay stopped. I wasn't a daily drinker, I didn't drink around the clock, and there were times when my drinking was reasonably moderate. But what I didn't understand about my drinking is that it wasn't a bad habit or bad choices I was making, it was an addiction. Which sounds great on paper, that's a lovely idea and probably very helpful in changing all sorts of behaviors. It's something that might be helpful for some people but it's not a magic bullet solution by any stretch of the imagination.įrom what I remember, most of the book is about changing how you think about alcohol, so the basic idea is to say, "This is poison that's harming me, it's not as fun as I think it is, it's negative, not positive," and to use that to quit drinking. I tried to find an easy way to stop drinking too and read that book about a dozen years ago. Online-Shopping mit großer Auswahl im Kindle-Shop Shop.
